Moving forward with Math
Calvert is now offering the Singapore Math method as an option in Grades 1–8 to provide students with an up-to-date, research-based math curriculum, which aligns to the Common Core standards recently adopted by most American states. Using the textbook Math in Focus, this course incorporates multiple learning strategies to engage all children and their learning styles. Hands-on learning with visual models prepares students for higher-level problem solving.
The Singapore Math method focuses on teaching mathematical concepts in depth, rather than providing a broad survey of topics. Students study concepts to the point of mastery, which eliminates the need for yearly review. Hands-on learning develops a deeper understanding of math. We offer the only Singapore Math program that provides instructional support with a detailed lesson manual, manipulatives, and online resources.
The Choice is Yours
The Singapore Math method is a path for students in Grades 1–8 who may one day enter into a school that follows Common Core standards. The student will study fewer concepts with the goal of mastery, allowing for a faster pace in core math skills. The student creates visual models to represent word problems and then transitions to solving problems algebraically.
Calvert Math remains available for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. If Common Core standards do not influence your curriculum decision, then Calvert Math is a solid choice for your child. It is designed for students who benefit from a broader curriculum with significant yearly review of skills. Students analyze the language of the word problems in order to determine the best strategies to solve them.

Get to know the Singapore Method
Calvert’s New Math Curriculum: Math in Focus. During this session you will become familiar with the key features of the new math curriculum as well as explore the Singapore methodology.
Each math course includes a textbook, workbook, Lesson Manual, and grade-appropriate supplies, such as counting blocks, punch-out manipulatives, a compass, or a protractor, to enhance the learning experience. You may also enroll in the Advisory Teaching Service with any Math course for additional support from an Advisory Teacher.
For accelerated math students, Calvert offers Algebra. Our Lesson Manual contains detailed instructions and easy-to-follow examples. Although parents remain involved, the Lesson Manual is written to the student. Our solutions manual provides step-by-step answers to textbook problems. Also included are lessons to teach the use of graphing calculators and a download for an easy-to-use computer program that replaces expensive graphing calculators.
Calvert also offers Math manipulatives to help students make meaning of mathematical ideas. Manipulatives help address different learning styles and help students through different developmental stages as learners. Activities and lessons included in these sets span multiple grade levels offering years of instructional value.
