Kindergarten Curriculum

Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum

Featuring a Phonics-Based Approach to Learning

Kindergarten Home School Curriculum

Calvert’s full-day Kindergarten homeschool curriculum offers hands-on, interactive learning to prepare your child for First Grade. Help your child refine his or her reading skills with our phonics-based approach and our colorful, read-aloud books.

An Interdisciplinary
Education

The Calvert Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum’s emphasis is on short vowel and consonant sounds, sequencing, auditory and visual discrimination, classifying, and rhyming. We integrate our reading materials with science and social studies, allowing for seamless interdisciplinary education. Math studies introduce students to numbers 1 to 31, as well as shapes, problem solving, and ordering numbers.

Introduction to Technology and Handwriting

Your child also will start technology lessons to learn basic computer skills such as word processing and graphics applications, and the homeschool curriculum will begin to include age-appropriate topics in science, poetry, and art. Discussions about community, transportation, and significant people and events build on Pre-Kindergarten topics while looking forward to First Grade. Students also will begin to learn formal printing skills.

This was the second time teaching kindergarten with Calvert. The extra stack of storybooks that you get had been added since my first time, and I was totally excited about that. My son loved them! It was a great addition. I think the curriculum is one of the best out there. Easy to use, well laid out and no guess work. Both of my boys enjoyed the computer work also. I think the curriculum is very well rounded in all subjects for that age level. I was very satisfied both times.

We finished the K course last school year. Wished it would be revised a bit with more academics and less coloring as the K curriculum is too heavy on the coloring end vs. the academic end. I do not feel it prepared my child for the Calvert First Grade Curriculum.

The Kindergarten course was actually good for me as a first time full-time homeschooling parent. It was easy for me to follow and my son enjoyed the activities that were included in the course. I would recommend Calvert's Kinder or even the Pre-K course to anyone with a young child . My son really enjoyed the computer applications and the math interactive games. They were an extra added bonus to the course. If you have a child that is a hands on/doing learner then Calvert is the right choice. It was for me and my son. Now I am about to start the first grade course in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to what is in store for us.
Thanks, Michele
