When C.H.E.F. was officially organized in 1984, the founding families felt that a home educational organization whose sole purpose was to meet educational needs was not enough. Since they were coming from a Christian perspective, home education, to them, had a much greater significance than just academics. Their convictions were based upon a "Christian World View." Although they recognized the right of any individual of any persuasion to home educate, they chose to limit membership to their organization to only those of similar Christian beliefs and standards. While the founding families did not want to discriminate against any particular Christian denomination, they did want to only include those potential members whose beliefs were consistent with traditional evangelical Christianity. Thus the Statement of Faith that we now have was written. As a result, the organization would not only provide a means to participate in support groups, field trips, and any other home educational function but would also help shield the children from the ungodly influences and humanistic world views.
