Different Curriculum Versions Offer Greater Flexibility
Choose the version of the Calvert curriculum that provides the most appropriate instructional focus for your child
Every child has a distinctive learning style and unique instructional needs. To address those varying needs Calvert has developed versions of our home school curriculum – Calvert Academic, Calvert Scholastic, and Custom Placement in Grammar/Composition/Spelling – each providing a different instructional focus in the key subject areas. Also available is our sister program, Verticy Learning for students who struggle with reading, writing, or spelling.

Calvert Curriculum Version Options
Calvert Academic (Pre-Kindergarten through Seventh Grade)
The Calvert Academic curriculum is our traditional instruction with the rigorous pace that our families have come to expect from Calvert. Students enrolled in Academic courses cover more topics in history and science; write additional, more complex compositions; and complete more advanced work with literature selections.
Calvert Scholastic (Fifth through Seventh Grades)
The Calvert Scholastic curriculum provides Calvert's challenging and integrated core curriculum, but it is structured in a way that gives students extra support in grammar, composition, and critical thinking. Its instructional focus meets the needs of students who require extra support in these key subject areas through additional review and skill reinforcement while maintaining the challenge of a Calvert experience.
Calvert Custom Placement in Grammar/Composition/Spelling
Students come to Calvert at various proficiency levels in reading comprehension, grammar, composition, and math, and so we revised our placement process to better accommodate their needs. Calvert offers three-part placement allowing children to access their grade level core content in Literature, Science, and Social Studies while placing them at their instructional level for Grammar/Composition/Spelling and Math.

Verticy Learning (Third through Eighth Grades)
If your child struggles with reading, writing, or spelling or has been diagnosed with dyslexia or another language-based learning disability, our sister program Verticy Learning may be right for you. A joint learning initiative of Calvert School and Jemicy School, Verticy Learning incorporates teaching and learning techniques of the time-tested Orton-Gillingham method of multi-sensory learning. Which Version is Right for My Child?
Calvert's Placement Counselors can assist you in determining which Calvert version, Academic, Scholastic, or Custom Placement in Grammar/Composition/Spelling is most appropriate for your child through the placement assessment process. Since all Calvert versions use the same Calvert Math course, you may tailor either course version by selecting the appropriate level of math for your child.
Enrollment in the Advisory Teaching Service and the Calvert Test Series are available for all Calvert course versions.
