Where can I get information about home schooling in my state?

Visit our State Resources Page for easy to access state specific home school information. Your state specific page contains links and contact information to home school regulations and support groups as well as a list of stimulating educational excursions to try with your child!

Is Calvert School accredited?

Calvert School is accredited both by the Commission on Elementary Schools (a division of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools) and the Commission on International and Transregional Accreditation (CITA). Calvert was the first home schooling curriculum to receive the CITA certification.

When can we enroll in Calvert School?

Calvert School offers open enrollment year-round, meaning you may choose to begin home schooling when it best fits your schedule and needs. Whenever you enroll, we recommend that you start your Calvert course at the beginning to ensure that your child receives the full benefit of integrated lessons without instructional gaps.

Is a placement test required to enroll?

We highly recommend using our free placement services to ensure your child enrolls in the Calvert grade level course that best matches his or her academic skills. Recommendations include custom math placement and in Fourth through Eighth Grades, Calvert Academic or Calvert Scholastic. However, only students enrolling in the Advisory Teaching Service (ATS) for the first time in Fourth through Eighth Grade must complete the placement test prior to enrolling and enroll in the recommended grade.

What is included in the enrollment fee?

Calvert School’s enrollment fee provides families access to all enrollment privileges, including My Calvert, i-Library, Education Counselor support, technical support, free standard shipping, a personalized Student Identification Card, and more. The enrollment fee is required for all grade level courses and is not refundable.

Are there Calvert Education Specialists available to speak to me?

Yes – Education Counselors are available to all Calvert families. They can answer pre-enrollment questions to specific curriculum questions, and provide practical advice. You do not have to be enrolled in the Advisory Teaching Service to speak with an Education Counselor, using this valuable service is a Calvert enrollment benefit.

Do you keep records of my child’s work?

This is an advantage of the Advisory Teaching Service; we keep records of our enrolled students. Students enrolled in ATS will receive a Certificate of Completion, which provides documentation of the successful completion of an accredited curriculum. Parents of students in First through Eighth Grade ATS can track their children’s grades with their online grade book, located in their Parent’s Learning Guide Portal.  You may also request a transcript. For students who do not enroll in ATS, we can provide a letter of enrollment in the course they ordered, but we are not able to confirm that the work in the course was successfully completed.

Can I use Calvert with my child with special needs?

Many children with different learning styles or special needs have successfully used the Calvert curriculum. For additional information on how our courses can be adapted, contact our Education Counselors at (888)487-4652. If your child struggles with reading, writing, or spelling or has been diagnosed with dyslexia or another language-based learning disability, our sister program Verticy Learning may be right for you.

Once I order how long will it take to get my course?

Once we have processed your enrollment you can expect the materials to arrive in approximately 3 – 10 business days depending on your U.S. shipping address. Addresses on the east coast will receive their materials sooner than addresses on the west coast. Note business days are Mondays through Fridays. Call our Client Services team for more details, 1-888-487-4652, and choose option 1.

How long is your processing time?

Processing your enrollment takes approximately 1 – 3 business days.  Orders placed on the phone are processed immediately and so offer the quickest processing time. Web orders are processed the following business day the order was completed online. While we make every attempt to process your enrollment as quickly as possible, you may experience delays during summer, our busiest months. Whenever possible, enroll early!

How do I get started with Calvert?

It is always best to make use of Calvert’s free placement services prior to enrolling. Proper placement helps ensure successful completion of grade level courses. Calvert offers several placement tests to choose from.

What is the Advisory Teaching Service?

Calvert also offers, as an option, our Advisory Teaching Service (ATS) for recordkeeping, a transcript, or to obtain an objective, informed professional teacher's evaluation of their child's work. Upon successful completion of their grade level, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and transcripts upon request. Families are welcome to use the ATS test included in their course as an evaluation tool, however, answer keys for ATS tests are not provided.

Can I buy just one book?

Calvert School is not a book seller; we are providers of complete home school curriculum. As such, we cannot sell you individual books. We do, however, have many Enrichment Courses that may contain the book you are interested in.

I have two children can’t I buy just the books and consumables I need for the second child?

As our enrollment agreement states, each child must be enrolled individually. Calvert recognizes that families want to save money and recycle course materials whenever possible, and so have developed a Re-use program. Calvert Re-use Courses allow families to re-use textbooks from previous years, while receiving new Lesson Manuals, consumable materials, access to online resources, and academic support.

What is the Textbook Exchange?

Calvert School is not a book seller; we are providers of complete home school curriculum that includes lesson manuals. As such, we cannot sell you individual books to complete re-use courses. Our Textbook Exchange is where families can buy and sell Calvert course textbooks to complete their re-use courses and to recycle textbooks. We do not charge commissions or fees on items sold on our Textbook Exchange.

What is your enrollment agreement?

When families enroll their children in Calvert School, they agree to the terms that the Lesson Manuals are leased for use for teaching the enrolled student only. The Lesson Manuals at all times remains the copyrighted property of Calvert School. Therefore, you agree at enrollment not to SELL, SHARE, RE-USE, GIVE-WAY, DUPLICATE or DISTRIBUTE the Lesson Manual. You are free to do what you wish with the textbooks and workbooks you obtain from Calvert School.

Will Calvert give or sell my contact information?

NO! Calvert School respects the privacy of its students and families and does not share information about you with other companies, individuals, or organizations unless specifically authorized to do so by the family. (See networking.)
